Is the ¾” line coming from the temperature and pressure relief valve on my water heater really necessary?

Yes. The temperature and pressure valve line must be piped correctly to keep the homeowner out of harms way. Call us if you have any questions.

Why has my water bill doubled since the last billing cycle?

Check your water closet tanks for leaks. We can check your house and water service for any leaks.

When I had a new kitchen countertop installed, I was told that the air gap for dishwashers was no longer needed. Why?

As a consumer, your first question to the store representative should be whether he or she has a Kentucky State Plumbing License. The air gap is necessary to protect the health of each person from water contamination. After 25 years of experience, the air gap remains part of the Kentucky plumbing code.

Do my fixture stops need to be changed after so many years?

Yes. If the valves under your fixtures will not turn off or turn at all, they should be replaced for the safety of the homeowner. A little preventative maintenance goes a long way.

What are the typical indicators of the age and reliability of a water heater?

The average age of a water heater tank in the Ohio Valley is 13 years. Signs that may indicate problems with the reliability of your water heater may include lack of hot water, excessive popping noise when the heater lights up. Remember that you only have about 75% of the tank volume before the water goes cool. For example, a 40 gallon water heater will give 32 gallons in best condition.

How do I locate my main water shut off?

All main water shut off valves should be located where the main water supply enters the house. For example, on a slab it will be behind the water heater before any other water lines are tied in. For houses with a basement, the shut off will be the first valve coming through the concrete wall. I suggest installing a ¼” turn ball valve to allow the valve to be shut off quickly and reliably. On a crawl space, the valve will often be found inside the crawl space. Consider moving the valve to the water heater area to allow for easy access.

Remember to shut the water main off when leaving the house for an extended period of time (weekend, vacation, etc.).
